11th anniversary of the Global Prevalence Study on Infections in Urology (GPIU) 2013

Dear colleagues,

We invite you to join the 11th anniversary of the Global Prevalence Study on Infections in Urology (GPIU) 2013

The GPIU is a worldwide ongoing web-based study investigating the prevalence and risk factors of infections in urological patients. It is currently the only database able to provide to investigators surveillance data on antibiotic resistance.

More than 20, 000 urological patients have been investigated in earlier studies from 2003 to 2012). As of today, the GPIU database contains detailed clinical data on more than 2,000 patients with urinary tract infections (UTI). Data statistics on antibiotic resistance are anonymously provided to the participating centres and GPIU-participants receive EU-ACME credit points and a certificate.

This year the side study on ?Prevalence and Risk Factors of Infections After Prostate Biopsies,? will be repeated. For this study, one day is designated in the following periods in November and December 2013, which can be freely chosen as study day:

  • Nov. 5-7
  • Nov. 12-14
  • Nov. 18*-21
  • Nov. 26-28
  • Dec. 3-5
  • Dec. 10-12
  • Dec. 17-19

*18 November 2013 is also the ?Antibiotic Awareness Day? of the European Centres for Disease Control  (ECDC)

We encourage all urologists to participate in the GPIU 2013 anniversary study! The GPIU Study website is at http://gpiu.uroweb.org/  and has opened on 1 November 2013.

The GPIU is fully sponsored by the European Association of Urology (EAU) with the cooperation of several international scientific societies. Please find the study protocol here.

On behalf of the European Section on Infections in Urology (ESIU), we thank you for your interest and look forward to working with you.
